The BCS has once again left us with more questions than answers. I suppose the most pressing question is what are the purposes of the BCS system? Is it to place the two best teams in the National Championship, or the two most deserving? After that is determined, what about the rest of the BCS Bowl Games? Is the goal to put the largest drawing schools together? Is it to put those snubbed Cinderella teams in the spotlight? Is it to what we all believe it’s about, money? Frankly, I’m tired of this and this is how I propose to fix it.

The Shan-A-Plan: Force or Farce?

John Beck? Rex Grossman? Really? These are the QB’s that Mike Shanahan is betting his career on?
At first glance, it seems like Shanahan has lost it. Here is the end of his long, illustrious career. After a year with Washington, Shanahan is senile.
But this is the sole story coming out of the Redskins’ offseason. The amount of attention that the QB situation has received among NFL analysts is appalling. Mike Shanahan is no dummy. Jim Zorn was chased out-of-town after being ineffective. Zorn had an ultimatum by fans and Washington’s management to “win now” and couldn’t produce. Shanahan is doing something different, he’s rebuilding a team. And it’s long overdue. (more…)
5 months in 5 days: NFL FA Frenzy Summary
Posted in Football, NFL, tagged CBA, Football, Free Agency, NFL, Roster Moves, Trades, Training Camp on August 2, 2011 | 1 Comment »
The NFL FA Frenzy lived up to the hype. High profile free agents were “agreeing to terms” and trades were being reported well before they could even be officially confirmed. It was nothing short of fascinating, and it will never happen like that ever again. In the flurry of action, the offseason roster building was basically shortened from what is usually a five month process into a span of about five days. This was of course because of the painfully long labor negotiation and lawsuit litigation that took place most of the Spring and Summer. In case you missed some of the moves (which I’m sure you did), I have condensed the most notable ones to catch you up. Whether you are prepping for a fantasy draft or just want to find out what your team and their competition did, this is the place to find out. Here we go… (more…)

As the negotiations, leveraging, political maneuvering, and legal filings from this summer’s NFL labor dispute near an end, it proves one undeniable truth; the product that is the NFL holds unprecedented marketing value and facilitates a market growth that has never been seen in sports.

Quick Hits: NCAA enabling bad decisions

Ohio State football players, DeVier Posey, left, Mike Adams, Boom Herron, Terrelle Pryor apologize after being suspended for selling team paraphenalia and receiving improper benefits from a tattoo parlour. (Terry Gilliam/The Associated Press)
Ohio St. finally beat an SEC opponent in a BCS Bowl Game, too bad the victory was completely tarnished by the fact the NCAA ruled that the five players suspended for rules violations were allowed to play. All they had to do was promise to come back to the university next season and say they were really, really, really sorry… (more…)
NFL MVP: Tom Brady or Michael Vick?

Let’s get one thing straight, Tom Brady and Michael Vick are both dominant at their position, both are on good teams, and both have the unquestioned respect of their teammates and coaches. The NFL’s MVP will be well deserved this year, whichever quarterback wins it. Both players have support for the honor and it will be fascinating to see what appeals to the voters. (more…)
Detroit Lions and Matt Stafford: Is the end near?

Another brutal and painful year for the Detroit Lions and what seems to hurt the most are the questions surrounding “franchise” quarterback Matt Stafford. There is so much uncertainty with the painstakingly slow CBA negotiations showing zero progress and in the Detroit Lions front office, those questions and more will make for an intriguing off-season. I do not envy Martin Mayhew, as he is about to make a decision that could impact the teams’ success or failure for years to come. As for Matt Stafford, an AC joint may not be the only type of separation he experiences. (more…)
